Let E-book Readers Change Your Life

September 3rd, 2010 admin No comments

Unlike other flashy electronic products, an e-book reader is more of a reserved lady. It is dedicated to the group of book worms, who occasionally have the wish to dwell in a library. Some additional features might have been added to e-book readers, but fundamentally, these portable gadgets should be designed with a big screen, light-weighted, good for longtime reading, and durable.

By utilizing E ink, e-book readers outshine other portable electronic devices in advantages like no radiation, no flashing and remarkably power-saving. The screen of e-book readers is composed of millions of tiny particles that display text. While you turn on the e-book reader, E-ink in some particles shows while that in the rest doesn’t, hence the text of a page is displayed. After the text is displayed, the screen will stay in a static state, with no more power used! And only when you switch between pages will a small portion of power be consumed. Usually, a small battery can serve marvelously longtime reading on e-book readers.

So how much does an e-book reader cost? E-book readers have price tags from $259 to more than $1500, from the latest Kindle to the top-end Flepia reader. On DHgate we have some hot selling MIC e-book readers which are less noted compared with Kindle but still see an increasing popularity among purchasers from American and European areas, thanks to their attractive price (between $200 and $300) and good quality that by no means loses to Kindle.

e-book readers

Major features of these e-book readers are listed below:

1. Ultra light, easy to carry in pocket
2. Paper-like display with E-Ink technology, no damage to your eyes
3. No radiation, no flashing
4. The size of characters adjustable for easy reading
5. Stable and sufficient brightness for both indoor and outdoor reading
6. MP3 player

Make this freezing season cozy and gentle and pamper one’s neck. – A neck support and massage pillow is suitable for both men and women who have been toiling all year round.

Neck pillows support the neck by providing a deep area for the head to rest and a supportive area to keep the neck in alignment with the spine. Besides using it for sleeping, people can use it to help rest their necks while driving a car, traveling on a train or working in front of computer for a long time. The U-shaped pillow gives a full support to the back to the left and right sides of one’s body.

Buckwheat pillows are traditionally popular in Asian countries where people find it not only comfortable but have been known to cure some illnesses. Recently, this kind of pillow began being heavily marketed in the US. Since the buckwheat hulls don’t compress, the pillow conforms to the exact contours of the head and neck. It is recommended by health-care professionals for relief of neck pain, headaches, muscle tension, snoring, sleeplessness and other conditions.

Review: Love From New York by DKNY

August 30th, 2010 admin No comments

Whistles is the go-to shop for those dream day-to-night dresses, they do perfectly cut pieces in stunning prints that have a really contemporary yet sexy feel – basically Whistles rarely gets it wrong. With this in mind we went along to their Autumn Winter 10 press day recently and once again we fell in love with the collection. Filled with wearable pieces from wool tailored trousers to sumptuous outerwear to stand-out evening wear, Whistles AW10 range is set to be making a significant appearance on our wish list for next season. There were a few pieces we fell in love with in particular, including a deep red digitally printed dress with geometric cut-out neck detail and fierce padded shoulders – perfect for cocktails and dinners when worn with killer heels and bold lips. Another standout piece from the collection is a blue wool cropped biker jacket with a shaggy hair collar. And if you’re after a statement jacket then look no further, as this gorgeous piece has a seventies feel to it and is a nod towards the AW trend for luxe feel outerwear. As well as all of the rails of clothes we were lusting after, Whistles’ very quirky sheepskin covered shed took our fancy too. Used to house their accessories collection we thought it would look rather chic as our new wardrobe. Unfortunately the furry shed isn’t going to be a available to buy, but we’re not too disappointed as we’ve got more than enough to look forward to with the coming AW10 collection.

Giorgio Armani dresses Cate Blanchett for Cannes

August 30th, 2010 admin No comments

As avid fashion fans will well know, Cannes Film Festival kicked off yesterday (or the day before for Karl and his gang), and the stars’ sartorial choices were in full swing. Doing his bit to dress the best, Giorgio Armani put Cate Blanchett in one if his own handy works.

She chose an ice-pink triple organza lame cocktail dress from the Giorgio Armani Prive collection to wear to the Robin Hood press conference at the Palais des Festivals, and looked every bit the sophisticated (snigger) screen siren.

What with her bespoke Roger Vivier boots one day and couture the next, we reckon we could get quite jealous of Ms. Blanchett – what next, we wonder?

Or perhaps the real question is who next for Mr Armani? He’s leant his talents to Lady Gaga (again), Alicia Keys and Cate in the past week alone.

Dynamic Duo | Cocteau & Cartier

August 29th, 2010 admin No comments

Jean Cocteau? Keystone; ? Erica Lennard; ? Cartier Jean Cocteau in his garden in Milly-la-Forêt; Cocteau’s study in Milly-la-Forêt; Trinity La Belle ring.

Jean Cocteau, best known for his graphic line drawings and Surrealist cinema, had a longstanding association with the jeweler Cartier that was best signified by his famously wearing two of its signature Trinity rings stacked on his left pinkie. Created in 1924, the three intertwined bands of pink, yellow and white gold have long been held as a symbol of love and worn by many a Cartier fan as an actual wedding band.

To honor Cocteau, Cartier has introduced the Trinity La Belle, named after his film “La Belle et la Bete,” for which Cartier supplied the diamond tears for the beauty. La Belle has six interlocking bands and is studded with a diamond star, playing off of the artist’s well-known signature. Coinciding with this memento joaillerie, and just in time for the summer holidays, is the opening of the Cartier-financed restoration of the Maison Jean Cocteau in Milly-la-Foret, about an hour south of Paris.

The home and gardens seem well worth the excursion. In “The Difficulty of Being,” Cocteau put it best: “I am living in this retreat, far from the bells of Palais-Royal. It gives me an example of the absurd magnificent stubbornness of the vegetable kingdom.”

Acne’s London store is here

August 28th, 2010 admin No comments

It was some time ago that Swedish label Acne first talked about housing a London store, but fast forward a year or so and it’s finally landed. Fashion fans, calm yourselves – Acne’s first ever London store is about to open its doors.

In about 24 hours or so, to be precise. That’s right, the label’s London store (or studio, as it prefers to be called) is opening to the public tomorrow, and rest assured that the wait was well worth it.

Taking over an entire Mayfair townhouse, the new studio spans four floors, each as white-washed as the next but with a different direction from the last – there’s a floor for denim, a floor each for the men’s and women’s collections, and a floor for footwear right at the very top. And if you happen to get tired after all those stairs, there’s even space for you to take a rest on a small outdoor terrace. An especially chic touch, we think you’ll agree.

As well as Acne’s own label, there’s also work from collaborators – Husam el Odeh has created some jewellery pieces especially for the studio, and and you won’t be able to miss the huge painterly canvasses by Jeremiah Goodman that line the walls. Oh, and the debut collection of streamlined fashion-forward furniture by the brand’s head designer Jonny Johansson will also be available to snap up.

“Mayfair is just a beautiful name. And why a whole House? Ever since we formed ACNE we always talked about a house with different levels of creativity to house all of our artistic endeavours,” says Jonny. “We have the house in Stockholm – a huge old bank once owned by the Wallenberg family and to be able to recreate that in Mayfair is one of my absolute dreams. The Studio will be more than just clothing, it will be a house of differing creativity.”

Sounds good, non? If you’re as excited as us and you happen to be in town tomorrow, we suggest you pop to give Acne’s London studio a visit when it officially opens – it’s at 13 Dover Street, London W1.

Calvin Klein revamps Clueless dress

August 27th, 2010 admin No comments

Fashion fans in their mid-twenties will probably have Clueless to thank for their expensive obsession with designer dresses – and one Ms. Cher in that little white Calvin Klein numer, in particular. Well, consider fashion’s flame with the 90’s film well and truly re-united, for that very dress is about to be re-designed.

And for that we can thank LA style emporium Confederacy who, after several sociable meetings, soon became best friend’s with Calvin Klein’s creative director Francisco Costa and persuaded him to reprise the famous piece.

“It was love at first sight,” Ilaria Urbinati, one co-founder of Confederacy, told the Daily of his meeting with Costa. “I sort of geeked/fan-ed out on him and went into a spazzy explanation of how my formative-years love of Calvin was partly based on the little white Calvin mini dress Alicia Silverstone wears in Clueless! I reanacted the entire scene for him (you know, “Cher, what are you wearing?” “A dress!” “Says who?” “Calvin Klein!” “Well, go put something over it!” “Duh, I was just going to!” and then she comes out with the clear trench). So of course I said, Francisco, you need to remake that dress.”

One watch of that scene on YouTube later, and Costa agreed. With that, the legendary little white dress is about to hit the sales floor for our shopping pleasure – but we suggest you get your hands on it quickly, it’s limited edition. Oh, and you’ll need to have $915 lying around, too.

Sadly, we’re not stateside to get ours, but Clueless fans will find theirs at Confederacy stores in LA and online at shopconfederacy.com.

First look: Madonna and Lourdes’ Material Girl line

August 27th, 2010 admin No comments

We’re sure you won’t have forgotten that Madonna and her gradually-growing-into-a-stylish-teen daughter Lourdes are launching a clothing line, aptly named Material Girl – well, that’s come to fruition now, and here’s a first look at what fashion crazy juniors can expect.

Naturally, it’s unashamedly 80’s with leather vests, bodycon mini skirts, bright colours, bold prints, peplum frills, oversized shirts and net overlays and the like. Oh, and there’s corset-style tops, studding details, leggings and lace trimmings thrown in for good measure, too.

So considering it’s aimed at fast-fashion-focused teens, it’s not far off the mark – and for those hoping it’d have a Madonna influence, there’s definitely something Desperately Seeking Susan about Material Girl – but we can’t help but feel (and yes, we know it’s not aimed at us), that we’ve seen it all before.

For those that think it’s just the ticket, though, we suggest you put August 3rd in your diary – it’s strictly available at Macy’s which, rather predictably, means there’ll be a mad dash to snap the pieces up. But that shouldn’t worry hot young fashionable things who don’t manage to get their hands on it – it’s nothing H&M isn’t already offering.

Visit www.materialgirlcollection.com for more updates (there’s a competition to meet Madonna, too!).
